Ethan Darrow

For more than four decades, Virginia Darrow was at the forefront of nearly every community project in her hometown of Willimantic, Connecticut. After graduating from Windham High School, she worked as a secretary before marrying Harold Darrow. With a passion to better her community, she established a chapter of the League of Women Voters, served three terms as a selectwoman, and founded the local garden club and a Victorian neighborhood association. Also, in cooperation with the local Mental Health Association, she helped establish an early childhood support group.
Mrs. Darrow received many accolades which included being twice nominated for the Athena Award of the Greater Windham Chamber of Commerce and Woman of the Year for the Norwich Business Women’s Association. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and knitting.

Impact

In honor of her legacy, the Virginia B. Darrow Memorial CSM Nursing Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by Ethan Darrow to provide financial assistance for tuition, books, and fees for Calvert County high school graduates enrolled at the College of Southern Maryland who have been accepted into the college’s Nursing program.
