The Family of Jean Sultzer (Curtis) and Tony Sultzer
Jean Sultzer (Curtis) was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Pomonkey High School but did not have the guidance or money to attend college. William (Tony) Sultzer had a football scholarship to college but chose to join the U.S. Army to provide financial support to his hard-working single mother and siblings in Selma, Alabama. Tony’s military service brought him to Southern Maryland, where he met Jean. Jean and Tony continued to remain connected to Southern Maryland through family and its residents. They worked hard and gave what they could to the community while giving their all to their three sons and watched them achieve the dream of college education that they forfeited. This scholarship serves as a continuum of their hard work and support to the community.
Impact
Established by David Sultzer to honor their life-long legacy, this scholarship supports underserved students of Southern Maryland in any educational program at CSM.
The Jean and Tony Sultzer/Curtis Memorial Scholarship Endowment creation will honor the beginning-to-end connection they had with Southern Maryland. This enduring assistance to CSM students will serve as an example of Jean and Tony’s life-long commitment and hard work who both had offers to college but could not afford it, yet they continued to realize that dream through their sons.
