The Cangelosi Family
“I’m from Southern Maryland and I’m real down to earth. I like all that outdoorsy goodness: waterskiing, snowboarding, kayaking, mountain biking; it’s all good. I like to dream big!” – Peter Cangelosi
A graduate of Westlake High School Class of 2008, Peter Cangelosi attended the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus (UMBC) as a Meyerhof Scholar. A talented athlete, he played football and wrestled while attending Westlake High School. Peter was the wrestling team captain, placed fourth in the region, and wrestled at the state level. In his youth, Peter played soccer for nine years and was an avid outdoor and nature enthusiast. He hiked Mount Katahdin, rafted class five white water rapids, sailed the Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, scuba dove the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and the Florida Keys Reef Tract, and hiked over 50 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch. Growing up, Peter wanted to be a cardiac surgeon, but in college his passion changed to medical research. During his internship at Stanford University, he worked on a project that studied the positive effects of a Herpes drug on mice with induced Multiple Sclerosis. At the University of Maryland, he worked on a research project studying brain trauma and the recovery blast injuries. He worked at the Taste and Smell Clinic in Washington, DC.
