The Family of Lucy Detig
Wife, mother and community supporter, Lucy Detig attended Pennsylvania State University. Following her marriage in 1973, she lived in New Jersey and Texas prior to settling in Waldorf, Maryland in 1981. She worked with Charles County Public Schools for 28 years, beginning as a volunteer in her children’s classrooms in 1982. She joined the Charles County Adult Educational Program in 1987 where she spent 11 years as an adult education instructional specialist at the Lifelong Learning Center. Her favorite hobbies were spending time at the beach, reading, and fostering kittens for the Charles County Humane Society. Lucy Detig is remembered for her love of animals, especially dogs and cats, and for her strength, positive energy and compassion.
Impact
The Lucy Detig Student Success Endowment Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by Raymond Detig, in memory of his wife, Lucy to provide an annual scholarship for full time and/or part-time College of Southern Maryland (CSM) students who are Charles County residents and are graduates of the General Education Development or the National External Diploma program at the Charles County Lifelong Learning Center, where Lucy worked for many years.
